My Backstory:
I was born and raised in Eden Prairie, MN, where most of my family still lives. After leaving Eden Prairie, I earned a B.S. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
After college, I spent a year working and skiing in Park City, UT. A year of trying to get by on minimum wage in a ski town was enough to convince me to start my career. I spent a year in Philadelphia, and another 8 years in Chicago, where I got my start in sales, first in the textile industry, then in television advertising. After 15 or so years of living outside of Minnesota, I was ready to move home.
I entered into real estate shortly after returning to Minnesota in 2003. It felt like my destiny. My father was a commercial/industrial Realtor for most of my life, and my oldest sister, Kathy, had become a residential Realtor a few years earlier. My aunt and uncle have been in residential real estate since the late 70's, as well. After speaking with the Realtors in the family, and exploring this career path more thoroughly, I realized that this would be a great fit for me.
As a Realtor, the most important thing to me is giving my clients the best representation I know how. My years of experience in real estate have given me the knowledge and the confidence that my clients expect, and the credibility to always give them my honest opinion, even if it is not what they are hoping to hear. I have realized this is something my clients value most with my representation. My clients know that I will always put their best interests and financial security ahead of all other considerations. Professionalism, attention to detail, and excellent communication with my clients, and all other parties to a transaction, are other attributes I strive for to make sure that my clients have a smooth transaction and are able to make their real estate goals become a reality. That is MY ultimate goal. I have also found that it is the best way to have a successful career.
https://www.facebook.com/MikeOpheimRealEstate/My wife, Carrie, and I love to be involved in our community and to do volunteer work. To that end, one of the best decisions we made was to become members of the Hopkins Elks Lodge. I am currently on the Board of Trustees at the Elks, helping to oversee and manage our Lodge and Club activities. I am also on the Veteran's Affairs Board and help lead our Welcome Home Veteran's and Veteran Bed Brigade. Other volunteer opportunities through our Elks Lodge include work in support of our local youth organizations, Teaming Up For Teens, and our Minnesota Elks Youth Camp.
http://www.hopkinselks.org/We are also deeply involved in supporting our local veterans through the Elks. I am on our Veteran's Affairs Board and our Bed Brigade Board. Among other things, we have partnered with a local charity, Every Third Saturday, to purchase, assemble and deliver housing kits and beds to formerly homeless veterans that are just getting off the streets and into their first home in some time. We have delivered more than 600 kits in the last few years, and are among the leaders in the nation among Elks Lodges in this cause. We have also help to furnish transitional housing set up by Every Third Saturday to that also helps counsel and train formerly homeless veterans to empower them to have a better chance at reentering mainstream life.
Every Third Saturday is a local charity, run by a retired Marine and his wife. They are dedicated to serving the local veteran community, particularly homeless veterans.
One of their primary missions is to supply free clothing to any who need it. Carrie and I, and our Elks friends believe deeply in their mission, and jump in to help with anything they need. This has inspired me to begin an annual clothing drive in my Hopkins neighborhood. I started walking my neighborhood, handing out 800+ flyers, each Veteran's Day to round up donations for the veterans. It has been such a success that I intend to start a 2nd clothing drive over Memorial Day weekends, as we move forward.
One of the first things that Carrie and I did after joining the Elks was to put together a Pet Adoption Event. Several years earlier, we had adopted our dog, Cooper, from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services. After seeing how much they do in our community to help find homes for shelter dogs and cats, we were inspired to want to lend a hand. This has become an annual event that we host during the Hopkins Mainstreet Days festival. So far, we have helped MARS adopt out a number of dogs, and have raised several thousand dollars to donate to the cause. We feel we are just getting started, though!!
